Location: Barcelona, Spain
Cuisine: Italian
50 Top Pizza is a website that ranks pizzerias all over the world. There’s a list just for Italy (can you blame them?), but there is another one for Europe (without Italy). As of 2023, number three on that list is Sartoria Panatieri in Barcelona. The pizza here is inspired by Naples but rooted in the Catalan region. They prize organic, locally-grown ingredients from small farms, from their organic flour to the cured pork belly. It’s truly an authentic farm-to-table experience.
I first visited Sartoria Panatieri with Victor and his parents. We shared three pizzas:
- Cheese: Puig Pedròs (soft cheese), Gamoneu (cured cheese), Cabrales (blue cheese) and mozzarella
- Sobrasada, Mahón cheese, wild fennel, honey and mozzarella
- Cantabrian anchovies, tomato, endive and kalamata olive puree
All of them were delicious, but I absolutely loved the anchovy pizza, typically called Neapolitan pizza on most menus. This one was unusual in that it had no cheese, but I loved it nonetheless as I could really taste the tomato sauce.
Beyond pizza, Sartoria Panatieri also serves some small plates. We got the Stracciatella of burrata, basil oil and seasonal herbs, Focaccia with Rosemary and olive oil, and Aubergine parmigiana.
Of course, for dessert, we got their Tiramisú. Victor’s dad’s favourite dessert is tiramisú and he said that it was amazing here. They also have some specials, and this time we got the Blueberry Pie. I’m a sucker for fruit pies, and this one was pretty yummy!
A year later, Victor and I took some of friends here and this time I got the Burrata stracciatella, tomato and basil pesto pizza. It was really fresh and light, and the dough was so puffy and delicious!
Sartoria Panatieri is located in the neighbourhood of Gràcia and opened in 2018. It’s really impressive that they’ve moved up the ranks so quickly, but nonetheless, it is well-deserved. I look forward to going back super soon.
