Location: Dublin, Ireland
Cuisine: Irish
While I was studying abroad in Belfast, Northern Ireland in the Spring of 2014, my cohort made occasional trips to Ireland to learn about its history and how it intertwined with the history of Northern Ireland. On one such trip, we visited Dublin for a few days. Our programme guide, Ray, travelled with us and showed us around town, so to speak. Sure, we learned a lot, but we also had a lot of fun! He was also very excited to take us to his favourite pub in Dublin: The Hairy Lemon.
The pub is a bit of a mishmash of eras, influences and traditions. It’s an Irish restaurant and pub, there’s no doubt about that, but it has some unconventional aspects to it as well. The place is covered in Irish memorabilia.
For dinner, I had fish and chips and for dessert, I had Guinness chocolate mousse. Though there was nothing fancy about the food, all of it was so delicious! Simple, but tasty food! It was definitely the best pub fare I have ever had.
And then, in 2017, I had the pleasure of visiting Dublin again, but this time with Victor. I, of course, had to take him here. He opted for pie and mash and I opted for a goat cheese salad. Both were scrumptious and comforting and even better with a pint of Guinness.
The Hairy Lemon is a fun place to take visitors to Dublin as it’s got enough stereotypical charm but also is beloved by locals too.
Where have you had the best pub food?
