Location: London, England
Cuisine: Brunch
Every city I’ve ever lived in has had a special passion for brunch. But, the key is not to get distracted by instagram bait and overpriced dishes which are nothing more than mediocre. However, Half Cup in Kings Cross is instagram-bait with its beautiful watercolour wall paintings, but the food is actually delicious! Best of all, as it’s really well-located, all your friends can meet you there in no time. But seriously, can you believe this artwork?!
I’ve been to Half Cup twice and each time has been an absolutely wonderful experience. For my first visit I went for the epitome of modern brunch: smashed avocado on toast. While a simple choice, it was delicious! The toast is made of charcoal sourdough and is topped with arugula, smoked salmon, and a poached egg. Nowadays they’re including heirloom tomatoes which I think is a great addition!
During my second visit, I didn’t feel like anything savoury and instead went for something sweet. I went for their porridge and let me tell you, it sparked my love for porridge today! I honestly still dream of their porridge because it was the perfect balance of textures and flavours. Sliced almonds are definitely a must in porridge. To my American friends, porridge is essentially oatmeal in the UK, so don’t freak out!
Another delicious decadent item on the menu is their famous homemade banana bread with espresso mascarpone. I hear they perhaps don’t have this anymore… but looking at their new menu I might need to try out their french toast!
Simply put, Half Cup is a joy to be in and their food is simple, artistic and scrumptious.
