UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” — Mark Twain
For so many years I never knew what it meant to be an American because I had never lived there! Then, for high school, my parents moved ‘back’ to the States and there I was, learning all about a place I only identified with through my passport.
The US has so much to offer, and I love exploring each and every piece. Every state really is a country in itself, each having its own cuisine, music, natural wonders, people, and traditions. I feel as though I’ve only scratched the surface, but each year I get to know this giant nation more and more.
My American home is Washington DC and Virginia (particularly Northern Virginia) and I also have a soft spot for rural Ohio, where I went to college for 4 years. I also lived in Hawaii for a year as a child. But, I also have family in New York, Georgia, and Florida, so I’ve been lucky enough to get to know those states as well. Definitely an east coaster!
My personal favourite things in the US include scenic drives, the National Parks, regional cuisines, the seaside coasts… and of course the people!
