Morning

Copenhagen is really designed for cycling, so I would first and foremost recommend renting a bike. After that, start off in North Copenhagen with the Little Mermaid Statue. From there head south to the Copenhagen Citadel. Pass by the Gefion Fountain and head to Frederik’s Church, the large domed church in the city. Afterwards, head to your first palace of the day: Amalienborg. Round off the morning with a walk through St. Ann’s Garden. Start biking down to Nyhavn, the port!

Afternoon

For lunch I recommend pretty much anything that is not along Nyhavn. The harbour is beautiful, but unfortunately is tinged with sub-par food. After your full and ready with energy get back on your bike and pass by King’s New Square and Magasin du Nord, Denmark’s most famous department store. Your next palace is Christiansborg. From the palace head back up north to visit Strøget, one of the largest and longest pedestrian streets in Europe. There are quite a few small attractions in this area so you’ll have to visit which ones sound the most interesting to you. The Church of the Holy Ghost is one of the oldest churches in Copenhagen. The Round Tower is a spectacular tower with a spiralling ramp to the top. The Church of Our Lady is the cathedral of the city. It is designed in the Neoclassical tradition. If you still have energy to see more, head to Pisserenden, an alternative shopping area to the more touristy Strøget.

Evening

At this point you can either return your bike and take public transportation or continue on cycling. For dinner I’d head to the Meatpacking District of Copenhagen, known as Kødbyen. It’s become a really hip area, though not so cheap. A friend of a friend took me to mother, an amazing pizza place. The whole area has great nightlife, so go out and find what your heart desires.
